Biography
Ekpenyong Otu popularly known as Mixmaster Brown by friends and business associates grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. Hails from Cross River & Delta States.Spent some time in Jos.His love for music was discovered while in high school (Aguda Grammar school). Brown was only 16 years old when he started spinning records at neighborhood high schools with his family's music equipment.His sister was so supportive of his skills and talent that she drove to the store to buy him his very first mixer (Gemini Pmx).Losing his dad in 1988 only made him work hard to be a better person.
By the time he left high school, he found himself as the pioneer DJ for the Nation's number one record store (Tower Records and Tapes) owned by two (2) brothers-DJ Mannix and Collins Akpapunam.
While he was the head boy at Tower Records and Tapes, he mastered the secret and art of mixing.
He was the pioneer DJ in most of the night clubs in the country (90's). It was through these shows that he built a reputation for mixing, which had him spinning with Djs Like Howie T, Grandmaster Greg e.t.c.
His good ear for music coupled with his mastery of mixing techniques made him popular among the show/party circle which also led to the discovery of some of the biggest musical acts in Nigeria.
Due to his smooth and calm attitude towards the art of DJing, so many people came up to him requesting to be showed and to be taught the secret. He made DJing so much fun in the eyes of all.
His dedication and contribution to DJing paid off when he was named the anchor deejay for the 50 Cent/G unit Concert and as one of the deejays for the Akon Concert,he was also summoned to be a part of the Jarule and Kelvin Lyttle concerts.He has practically deejayed at all levels of the field.
Mixmaster Brown, now based in Houston, Tx, is on a mission, will he make it? this is a question always asked by many. Only time will tell.
As a passionate team player,he swings with the Djs Association Of Nigeria,Djs Of Nigeria Groups.
One thing his fans are sure of is that he is one of the best around. He is currently an Executive member of the NIGERIAN PROMOTERS ASSOCIATION (USA) Inc.
Mixmaster Brown only stayed in Orlando for a couple of months and bagged 2nd place as Africa's best DJ in Central Florida. Worked with the world's no.1 entertainment company, Walt Disney World. Back in the 90's to the early 2000's, he also worked as an area representative and a show promoter with various event companies.
Mixmasterbrown C.E.O of Africa's most popular online social network and Radio (www.AfrijamzRadio.com) tries to promote the African culture,heritage through music and comedy.Which also tries to show the rest of the world how it's really done in his motherland Nigeria.
Afrijamz now has global recognition. A place where Africans go to if they need updates about Africa particularly Nigeria.
Dj2download.com (Music Record Pool) is another tool he invented for African djs,this came as a result of African djs not having a record pool of their own,so he built a record pool for African Music Loving Djs. He his not considering retirement so soon as he plans to execute few programmes before thinking of retiring.
